Book Summary of I Hate School

A hilarious picture book about the joys of school from the top class team, Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross.

Honor Brown cannot find a good word to say about her school despite much prompting. She insists that her teacher is a warty toad, the water tray has killer sharks in it, and even her friends are loathsome. But when the time comes to move on to “Big School,” she sits in the corner and sobs! Maybe it wasn’t so bad after all.

They were fas...

A cute story to read on the first few weeks of school. Although it may scare some children, there is humor behind it and many of the illustrations are one of a kind. The rhyming adds to the humor and many children would enjoy this as a fun read aloud story. Would recommend to grades 1-3.

This rhyming book highlights all the exgerations kids make up about hating school and might be a little too dark for sensitive children. This one is too crude for me to recommend, but some kids will find it relevant.

Ellee May 26, 2010 review from Goodreads

Will probably be appreciated most by 1st and 2nd graders. Silly rhymes about this girl's school (not at all exaggerated to hyperbole ;D ). Fun for adults too.

Stacy September 27, 2009 review from Goodreads

Poor Honor Brown. She goes to what must be the worst school on the planet. The lunch ladies feed the children rabbit poo, the teacher is a warty toad, the field trip features a man-eating tiger, and the headmaster cheerfully beheads those who talk in class. Those who love black humor will revel i...
